Why tape lifts from cartons in storage

Tape lifting can result from dust, unsuitable carton surfaces, low application pressure, temperature changes or strained carton flaps. Compare a failed carton with an approved sample. Review board quality and machine application before changing tape. Confirm whether the adhesive grade is appropriate for the actual storage conditions and retain representative failed samples.

Identify whether lifting starts at an end, along an edge or across the entire strip. Note when it becomes visible. A closure that fails immediately calls for different checks from one that changes after storage or a transfer between environments.

Examine the carton surface and the underside of the lifted tape. Loose dust or fibres can help explain poor contact, while pulled flaps suggest strain in the box. Compare the failed closure with an approved sample made on the same board.

Try one controlled correction, such as improving the application contact or correcting the carton closure, then repeat the relevant handling check. If the problem continues, send the supplier tape and carton samples with batch details and a description of the conditions.

Confirm your specification

Specify width, thickness, roll length or net material weight, core size, colour, packing, quantity and destination. Final dimensions and performance are confirmed by the sample and order.

Product details are based on the GUDE catalogue and supplied photographs; operating guidance is general and must be verified on your equipment.
